SLAM! Invitational played under the sun

The SLAM! Invitational featured many great teams from around the region. There was abundant sunshine and great competition at SERA and the Kent Service Club all weekend. The SLAM! got off to a WICKED HOT start with a scorching 11-0 victory. The game featured excellent pitching and a true display of the SLAM!’s hitting potential with 9 of the 12 girls getting one or more hits. Both Maddie and Nick hit monster home runs in the game. Next up for the SLAM! was a great game versus Rijo. The game was 1-1 deep into the game with Rijo scoring their final run in the 5th. The SLAM! threatened in the 7th with the tying run being thrown out at the plate for the final out of the game. It was a great game played by both teams and Maddie held the Rijo down to their low run watermark for the tournament. This is the same Rijo team that blasted some very good teams on Sunday. I’m very proud of how our team played the game defensively and wish, wish, wish I didn’t wave that last runner HOME!!!!!!
We finished up Saturday with a game versus the Lady Sharks. The game was close for a while with Nick pitching well. It was nice to see her shutting down a team on the hill again! The game was broken wide open by a monster hit in the gap by Courtney. I could see Courtney running down the first base line with the biggest grin her face. Tris also hit a key shot up the middle with 2 on to give us some further breathing room! Dana closed out the game with some great work on the mound.
Sunday morning started with the Phoenix 98. This is a club not to be underestimated. It took a while for the bats to get going, but Angela broked it open with a 3 run HOME run over the left fielder. Courtney and Maddie shared the pitching duties and held the phoenix to 1 run.
We finished the game with a fantastic pitcher’s duel versus the Canes 96. Through 5 innings, the score was knotted at 0-0. Something had to give. In the top of the 6th, the canes scored 2 on a single, a walk and a hard hit ball that just got by our infield. The SLAM! roared back in the bottom half and had 2 in scoring position with 2 outs but it just wasn’t meant to be.
Next up for the SLAM! is the ASA Metro 14A champion ship on the 18th and 19th.
Congratulations, girls on a great weekend.

The SLAM! had a nice ROAD TRIP this past weekend playing down in Oregon. It’s fun to get out and travel and play some teams we don’t normally play. The girls went 2-1 on both days and represented Washington very well. Big thanks to our 2 pickups, Jenna and Kaija for helping us out. Next up is the big SLAM! invitational!
