The SLAM! played in the muck and mud on Saturday up at the service club in Kent and came out 1-1 with a loss to the Bellevue Blast and a win over the Maple Valley Stealth. This was enough to get the SLAM! into the gold bracket with a matchup on Sunday against the Fugitives Black. Sunday’s game was a tight game with each team scoring 2 runs through 5. In the end, the Fugitives pulled ahead to win and then won their way all the way to the title game before losing to the Synergy. There were some seriously LARGE hits this past weekend with both Claire and Nicole hitting bombs that probably carried well over 200 feet.

Well, the SLAM! is back on the West side after a fun trip to the Tri Cities. While we did not scoot out of town with any victories, we played some great games that will pay dividends down the road. Next up is the ASA Combat Qualifier #1 at the Kent Service Club.

Well, it took me a little while to get to this footage, but in preparing the video I remembered a lot of great things the girls did a few weeks ago. We had diving plays, a home run, some huge hits and great pitching. Let’s enjoy spring break, girls and work hard next week to prepare for the Ice Breaker!

The format of the tournament was a 4 game guarantee with 2 pools of 4 teams. Teams played round-robin in their pools and then broke up into gold and silver brackets.
The following teams made it to the Gold Bracket:
Blaze 99
Blaze Intensity
Acers 99
Snohomish S.W.A.T.
The Gold Title game was won by the Acers 99 in International Tiebreaker over the Blaze Intensity.
The Following Teams played in the Silver Bracket
Woodinville Reign
Maple Valley Synergy
West Seattle Thunder
Snohomish Shock
The Silver Title game was won by the Woodinville Reign over the Snohomish Shock.
It was a great day with each team playing 4 or more games. We had two bouts with rain — one was a doozy for about 10 minutes each and we finished under the lights with an absolutely WONDERFUL played game by both the Acers and the Blaze Intensity.
Thanks for coming out and support the SLAM!.

Big thanks to Darrell for applying for a Teamsters Local 117 Community Sponsorship. Darrell and I attended the local membership meeting tonight to receive our sponsorship ward. They have sponsored one tournament’s fees! Darrell is a retired teamster member and has many stories on how the Teamsters improved working conditions at his workspace. It was stunning to see the amount of community support the Teamsters provide as at this membership meeting alone, 7 awards were given. Big thanks to the Teamsters Local 117 for their support and help in making our program a low cost program for our families.

The girls played 4 games this weekend and came away with a 1-3 record. Despite the lack of checkmarks in the “W” column, there was still a lot to be happy with. We play to win and did not succeed at that, but let’s take a look at some fun things that happened:
- Claire joined the HR club and also, added 2 dives to her total for the “Dive Club.”
- Faith gunned out at least 5 runners trying to steal on her. Some of them weren’t even close. ”CANNON!”
- Maddie had some seriously wicked hits this weekend including one that almost took out a pitcher.
- Our pitching was darn good this weekend….good enough to win, honestly.
- Analee got her first dive-play of the season.
It’s going to come down to hitting the ball a lot better. In each game, our pitching held up and kept teams down, however our offense is sputtering a bit. With a little more work, I think we’ll be in good shape. We’ll work hard and see if we can crank it up for the Icebreaker tournament.
An EPIC weekend is complete…

Well, the girls had a lot going on this weekend. First, we had our final weekend of basketball…The girls entered the final weekend undefeated and had a double-header on tap. The second team didn’t show, but in the first game, 6 SLAM! girls played hard and outscored the Crush. This was a very unique game — somehow we ended up with a 5th quarter ( confusion with the scorebook ) and the other team had a girl bombing 3 pointers from 6 feet beyond the arc. In the end, the SLAM! prevailed led by Maddie’s 18 points and Claire’s 12 points. Breanna had like a BILLION rebounds and Analee + LeAnna distributed the ball probably both reaching double-digits in assists. Faith had some sweet blocked shots and tons of good rebounds.
And then they went to sleep…Because on Sunday, we had a QUADRUPLE HEADER.
The games were treated as practice games, but it was great to see the girls competitive juices flowing. Claire entered the dive club with a diving catch at 2b and Nicole absolutely CRANKED a home run to join the home run club. The girls played, with the exception of one inning, a very good brand of SLAM! ball with very few errors. The team hitting was much improved which was good to see.
Next up is the Skyhawks Invite in Bucknell park in Lacey,WA.

The SLAM! and 6 other teams will be getting together for a “Low-Budget” practice tournament this weekend on Sunday at Steven J Underwood Park in Des Moines, WA. The weather looks promising and each team will get 4 games to hone their skills and work on the competitive lineups as we head into tournament season! Midway through the tournament, 2 girls from each team will represent their team in a skills competition. Let’s hope for dry weather and a whole lot of fun.
The SLAM!’s own screen printing company, SLAM! Printing will be selling SLAM! Invite sweatshirts for $20 and will be selling Peace/Love/Fastpitch shirts in a variety of team colors for $12.00.
Here is the schedule for the Sunday event!
