Here we go again. The girls went 3-0 and we go for gold on Sunday. Saturday highlights — Dana threw no hitter #2, the bats were ratting from all through the batting order. Zella, Taylor and LeAnna brought their “A” game today and were really hitting the ball. Faith hit a few with “Bubba” here big girl bat. We had lots of great play in the field. What more could you ask for?!?!?!
Well, we played again on Sunday and first up for the SLAM! was the Bellevue Blast. Dana threw a great performance pitching a 7 inning complete game shutout. The SLAM! only managed 2 runs, but it was PLENTY. In a preview of things to come, Taylor went 2-3 versus the blast with 1 key RBI.
The title game against the Everett Express was a wild game. After 3, the SLAM! held a 7-0 lead, but then the heat got to the girls and as soon as you blinked it was 7-7 after 5 innings. The SLAM! absolutely exploded in the 6th hitting top to bottom, putting up a 6 spot to pull ahead 13-7…Taylor Fricano had her first career HOME RUN and finished the day 4-6 with a walk. Zella finished strong with 2 key hits in the 5th and 6th…but the Express had one more counter punch. The Express roared back with a 5 spot and now the game was 13-12.
The SLAM! retired without scoring in the 7th and it was all up to the girls to hold the TINY one run lead. Coach Mike had previously re-inserted the starter, Nicole, back in the game and she was bringing the heat.
The game ended with a double play where Faith caught the low pop-up at catcher down the first base line and threw down to first to double up the runner. THE SLAM! WAS VICTORIOUS!
