SLAM! Hoops is Heading To Spokane

Posted on Thursday, June 25th, 2009

hoopfest

The girls are heading to Spokane to play in the WORLD’S LARGEST 3 on 3 basketball tournament.  All of downtown Spokane is shut down as over 1000 basketball courts are mapped out on the streets.  Over 16,000 players will play the event.  You can track the SLAM!’s progress by following the bracket:  < click for the bracket >

Each bracket is a mini-tournament.  You win the bracket and you get championship t-shirts and the honor of ripping up the tape lines on the court.  Maddie got to do that 2 years ago with Sophie, Audrey and Carrie Lyn — Let’s see what happens, girls!  We’ve got one with the FLU, but I’m sure she’ll make a speedy recovery.

Of course, there will be video highlights Saturday night so check back, SLAM! fans!

3rd

Congrats to the girls who fought through the losers bracket and SEVEN games to take 3rd in state.  Congrats to Dana and Analee for being named to the all state team for their performance this year.  Analee led the team in hits, runs and batting average and Dana had not lost a 12u tourney game until Saturday.  Every slam girl deserves such honors. You all are amazing and I’m very proud of you all. Go SLAM!

The SLAM! had key victories over the Montesano Bulldogs, the Elma Eagles, the Everett Express, the Bellevue Blast.  In the end, the Crushers proved just too much by literally ripping the cover off the ball.  Their bats had dynamite in them!

Balls were flying around on Field 2 of DACCA park on Saturday as the SLAM! batters came with mighty bats and the SLAM! pitchers came ready to throw HEAT.  Pick-up players Courtney and Hanna added some great fielding and key hits for SLAM!  What a couple of great girls.

Sunday Rundown
The SLAM! got off to a slow start giving up 4 runs in the first inning versus the Bellevue Blast, but Dana pitched another great game and held the Blast scoreless for the next 6 innings.  The SLAM! chipped away and won the game 5-4!
Next up for the SLAM! were the Crushers from Puyallup.  The Crushers led the whole way, but the SLAM! threatened in the bottom of the 7th, with 2 on and Faith at the plate.  Faith absolutely ripped a ball to left field.  If the outfielder drops it, it’s a tie game…she caught in the outfield with arm extended and the Crushers won.  The Crushers are a great team and are extremely well-coached.  We’ll see them next weekend.
GO SLAM!

12u

What a great weekend.  The SLAM! went 3-0 on Saturday with a victory over the Maple Valley Inferno, a shutout versus the SFC Chaos and a come-from-behind win versus the Snohomish Shock.  We had some great pitching performances and our bats have never been hotter.

On Sunday, we played at 8AM versus the Mosquito Squad and unleashed TWENTY hits against the squad for 11 runs to power through the semifinals to a rematch with the Shock.  The Shock were just too much today beating the SLAM! 10-2 in the final but all in all it was a great weekend…

Congratulations to the Snohomish Shock for playing a fantasic game in the title!

SLAM! takes a bite out of Squad 8-7

Posted on Thursday, June 4th, 2009

skeetIt was a hot spring night with temperatures in the mid 80s.  Coach Dave showed up with some new “lumber” for the girls to hit with and the girls really were pounding the ball last night.  In all, 14 hits and 8 runs were tallied.  The time with our “Overzealous Hitting Coach” Dave Scott is really paying dividends.  We will continue, as Dave calls it, “That Program” with more instruction on Friday night.

Faith led the way going 3-3 with 2 doubles and a triple.  The SLAM! had some mental errors last night due to lack of focus, but in the end, their bats were just too mighty.  Dana, Nicole and Maddie combined to handle the pitching duties.

I’m sure we’ll see the squad this weekend so we’ll try to put a few wrinkles in our game to keep them on their toes.

GO SLAM!  Watch out for thunderstorms tonight as we take on the Enumclaw Hornets!

14u

The SLAM! started the day with Maddie on the mound and Zella’s bat on fire.  The SLAM! beat the Tracyton Blue Thunder 10-2.  After that, the SLAM! took on the Diamonds from Puyallup and Dana threw a whale of a game with her EYE-POPPING, BAT HALTING changeups.  The SLAM! exploded for 7 to take the lead and Nicole came in and shut the door for the save.  In the end, the SLAM! won 8-3.  Next up for the SLAM! was the 14U Fugitives from Maple Valley.  They had a great pitcher and numerous hitters and the SLAM! lost a close one 5-3.  Analee had the play of the day showing some excellent range with a backhand play and 2nd base.  Faith gunned out a runner stealing 2nd and everyone left the field with the following thoughts on their mind:

1) Wow, it’s late.

2) Our girls can not only hang, but play very well against 14U teams.

3) I can’t wait til tomorrow.

Here we go.  Next up for the SLAM! are the Toscanos from Puyallup in the first round GOLD division.

GO SLAM!
